Our favorite bass playing Twitteratti Mark Perez (@faceofbass) asked me to come shoot their band Ransom show at the Gothic Theater on January 23rd. It was a hell of a time, and it created some great images! Here are a few for your enjoyment, especially if you want to see Mark doing what he does best.

Ransom's metal fury brought the house down!

Even Metal has to have the groove.

Playing metal guitar is a contact sport. (Shutter speed slowed for effect)

Metal drummer's always have the best kits.

Shredding is an artform.
These images really show what can be done in low light with a Canon Mk III 1D and a Sigma 50mm 1.4 lens on ISO 3200.
We’re going to be writing a full review of the show on the Colorado Music Board soon, so I’ll let everybody know when that’s ready.
Thanks to Ransom and Mark for having me us out to the show!

Wow – Considering how dark it was, those are AMAZING shots! Thanks for sharing Allen! (I also liked yesterday’s car wash shots.)
Pretty good shots….I manage a photography blog for my brother who takes many shots of bands… http://jeffreydene.com
Wow those are amazing man, can’t wait to share with the band, very good job! Thanks for coming to the show!
How did you get that shot of Keith, the drummer (if you only knew how broken down his kit has become) were you on stage? back stage too? I took some weird shots of Ransom at the Gothic nearly two years ago, some of which is on their MySpace, They are the ones with lots of blurred movement. Ransom shows shred while generating a powerful positive vibe groove. They must be seen, which is to also felt, to appreciate what their music does for your soul.
Great shots. Not that I’m going to dash out and get one of those cameras.
Greg,
I was actually climbing around the side stage and inbetween the gear boxes with the 50mm F1.4 lens. It was a lot of fun, and you are right, they need to be seen to be really heard. It was a fantastic show!
